    portato is actually articulated legato, where the notes are played almost legato.
    Staccato signifies an unconnected note, which is short and detached. In music, a dot is usually placed above to express that these notes should be distinctly separate while also quick in length. This does not, however, alter the rhythm of the music and the remainder of the time allotted for each staccato note is played as rest.

    Steps for sight reading
    1. Check Clef
    2. Check time signature (meter signature), is 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, or?
    3. Check finger position. Right hand thumb(1), left hand pinkie(5). This week, the 7 pieces are all C position, meaning both right 1 and left 5 are rested on C.
    4. Check dynamics. Dynamics normally refers to the volume of a sound or note. What is Dynamics? See wiki: Dynamics.

    新课
    《芭蕾演员》:F大调(F major)。所有的B变为降B(B flat)。之前的升降记号是临时升降记号,只管一个小节。调号中升降号管整首曲子。(keysignature)。
    《三只瞎老鼠》:G大调(G major)。所有的F变为升F(F sharp)。


    拜厄
    1。检查曲子9和10。
    2。新曲子11和12。

    弹曲注意:
    1。Thompson要采用吊腕的方式。
    2。一定要用节拍器,培养内心的节奏感,稳健的tempo。
    3。唱谱一定要唱出来。以后看到长的难的曲谱,那时再练习唱谱会很难;好几页长的曲谱的记忆,也需要有唱谱的能力,才可以帮助记忆。
    4。拜厄弹奏,左手要贴着键盘,不要太过用力的敲击。
    5。拜厄弹奏,右手的手指动作太多(如手指抬起,用力敲键等动作)。要注意手腕的移动,利用手腕的力量,(wrist rotation),这样声音会更加圆滑优美。
    6。music phrase: 乐句。如讲话中的语句一样。通常4个measure是一个乐句,也有6个8个的。每个乐句中的小节是连贯的,不要弹成各自独立的音符。句与句之间的断句,手腕提起进行呼吸。这样音乐听起来会有美感。拜厄中乐谱上的连线,即表明了一个乐句。

    新课
    《钟声响了》:学习升记号(#)(sharp)。音符(note)前的升记号#,要弹这个音右边最近的黑键。但并非所有的升音符都是黑键,#E=F,升E对应的是F音。该曲中的最快音符是四分音符,唱谱时一拍不用唱and。

    《太阳升起》:学习降记号(b)(flat)。音符前的降记号b,要弹这个音左边最近的黑键。同样不是所有的降音符都是黑键,bF=E,#G=bA。 这首曲子有难度,可先分手练习。

    A sharp # raises a note by semitone or half-step. A flat b lowers a note by semitone or half-step.
    bF: F-flat
    #F: F-sharp

    拜厄
    1。检查曲子7和8。曲子7的最后一小节只有一拍四分音符,不要拉长尾音。
    曲子8弹得很好,老师询问是否每天练习不止5遍?
    2。新曲子9和10。

    弹曲注意:在弹曲子时,即使拇指没有用到,也要将其放在键盘上,不要太靠后,离开键盘。
    下次12月的课调到周一晚6:45。12/7开始,共三节课。老师会加入两本新的教材,分别为finger power练习,及识谱练习。12月学费要交。

    Mom took Jonathan to Piano Class.

    开始Thompson的第二册。

    检查作业
    《上学的日子》:复习第一册内容。PASS。
    《捉人游戏》:八分音符。PASS。
    《穿过树林》:当乐谱包含八分音符(8th note),唱谱时四分音符(quarter note)的一拍的C唱做“do and"。八分音符的节奏要稳,Jonathan有到八分音符节奏会变快为十六分音符的问题。此曲下次再检查。

    新课
    《长号手》
    《噢,苏珊娜》:学习到加线(ledger lines, ledger spaces)。原先右手1指弹Middle C(Do),左手1指弹低音B(Ti)。这里右手1指弹到Ti,Ti音出现在高音谱表下加线的位置。左手整体右移一个键,左手1指弹Re,Re音在低音谱表上加线处。

    • Target practice on Pinkie
    1. result: no good, need check next class
    2. key points:
    1. practice SLOWLY, one by one, not continuous.
    2. Pinkie need against the key next to it to help holding finger position
    3. need help to hold the pinkie (from bottom) when hitting the key
    4. keep practicing everyday, even without the piano ... on other surface
    • Homework
    1. row the boats <- singing when play the piano
    2. sadness <- last 2 "C" soft
    3. princess: strong, week, week
    • left hand, raise the wrist to have strong sound
    • right hand, need hit quick but "soft/week" sound
    • practice: started with tempo at 52~60 (for first 3 days), then 80, final 100, 120 for best

    • raising the finger right before next key (NO way ahead the next key)
    • hit the key quickly to make sound right on "point"
    • wrist need rest all the time except for hitting the key

    The 1st November class. Tuition $120. The class was adjusted to Saturday 12:15PM temporarily.

    Target practice : both finger 5 (pinkies)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    - hold thumb on the key, keep pinkie standing and press firmly on the key next 5 to thumb key
    - pinkie need press on the left part (the side close to thumb key), not middle or right part of the key
    - pinkie need against the key left (side close to thumb key) to help holding right position
    - keep thumb holding on the key, but pinkie need raise and hit down: ALL 3 finger joints need "stand" during all steps.
    - keep slow tempo and press/hit pinkie firmly but wrist need to be relax.
    - pinkie: use finger strength itself, not hand nor wrist.
    - keep practicing for more than 20 time every day
    - do same practice for left hand (above are for right hand), each at least 20 times per day
    - after 3 days, do practice on both hands together, 20+ times per day
    - Teacher will check progress next class

    After bath, stretch the pinkies to help extend them. Unfortunately, they are too short for Jonathan. Do it as well for Annabel, it's more helpful on toddlers. DO IT EVERYDAY.

    Big difference between Bayer with Thompson: raise wrist/hand or not(断奏/连奏). Bayer is for "continuous" playing (连奏), like singing songs. Practice on each hand first, after 3 days, both hands together.
    Will start Bayer book next week. Take all books Thompson 1,2 & Bayer 1 to class.
